CES-ONLY - eLearning Day on Monday, Dec. 10, 2018

CES (only) Closed
eLearning Day Monday Dec. 10th
Please see the letter below from Fred Graf, Principal at Covington Elementary sent to CES families on 12/7/18.
Dear CES families:
We recently communicated about a high number of students absent from school, many with symptoms of viral gastroenteritis also known as the “stomach flu.” Our attendance numbers continue to reflect an uptick. As a result, we will close Covington Elementary (only) on Monday, December 10, 2018. It will be an eLearning day.
Monday’s eLearning day will run like any weather related closure/eLearning Day. Assignments will be posted by 10 a.m. and teachers will be available via Canvas from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Any eLearning lessons assigned will be due by Monday, December 17, 2018.
A decision to close school is never easy but the health and well-being of our students and staff is our number one priority. Prevention is key when it comes to spreading viruses. Closing school will help us prevent the spread of germs, allow our custodial staff to thoroughly clean the building, and give sick students time to recover over the extended weekend.
The “stomach flu” is very easily spread from person to person. Symptoms most commonly include nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. Other symptoms include low-grade fever, headache, body aches, and chills. Symptoms usually appear 12-48 hours after exposure and go away on their own within 1-3 days. Proper hydration is very important, especially if your child experiences several episodes of vomiting or diarrhea. Most people get better without visiting a doctor, but please contact your primary care physician if you have concerns related to your child’s well being.
As we said, prevention of spreading viruses is key. Please adhere to Fort Wayne-Allen County Health Department’s recommendation and our school’s handbook policy and not send your child to school or any other group event if he/she has any of the above symptoms. If your child has been ill, they should stay home for 24 hours after symptoms resolve. Proper hand washing is extremely important to prevent the spread of this infection.
Staff will use the extended weekend to clean the building following a cleaning and disinfection plan recommended by Fort Wayne-Allen County Department of Health and our cleaning products supplier. The cleaning will extend to our Transportation Department and the buses utilized by our students.
If you have any questions, please contact the school office at (260) 431-0501.
Sincerely,
Fred Graf, Principal
Covington Elementary
