An Introduction to Elizabeth Kitchen

Dear Covington Elementary Staff and Families,

Following tonight’s Board approval, I am excited and honored to introduce myself as the next principal of Covington Elementary School beginning July 1.  I am thrilled to join Southwest Allen County Schools and become part of the proud Coyote community.

Returning to SACS is especially meaningful to me, as I spent nearly eight years teaching at Haverhill Elementary. Over the past 20 years in education, I have had the privilege of serving in a variety of instructional and leadership roles, including teacher, elementary principal, High Ability Coordinator, Summer School Coordinator, Professional Development Leader, and K–12 Technology Integration Specialist. Along the way, I have worked to strengthen special education services, enhance school safety and security, and develop instructional supports that help every student thrive. These experiences have shaped my belief that strong partnerships between schools and families are essential to student success. When educators, parents, and the community work together, students are empowered to reach their fullest potential and accomplish extraordinary things.

On a personal note, my husband and I have been married for more than 30 years. We have two sons and a black Labrador named Stella, who keeps us active and entertained. Family is at the heart of everything I do, and I firmly believe that strong school-family partnerships provide the foundation for student success.

As I begin this new chapter, I am eager to learn from and work alongside the talented staff, dedicated families, and outstanding students who make Covington such a special place. I look forward to building upon the rich tradition of Coyote C.A.R.E.S. while ensuring every student feels valued, supported, challenged, and inspired to reach their full potential.

My goal is to help every child become the best version of themselves—academically, socially, and emotionally. Together, we will foster a culture where respect, responsibility, kindness, perseverance, and service are not only taught but lived each day. By working in partnership, we can prepare our students for success in the classroom while helping them grow into compassionate citizens and future leaders.

I am grateful for the opportunity to serve the Covington community and look forward to meeting each of you in the weeks and months ahead. Prior to the start of the school year, I hope to provide opportunities for families to stop by, introduce themselves. Additional information will be shared soon.

Thank you for welcoming me into the Coyote family. I cannot wait to begin this exciting journey together.  Go Coyotes!

Warmly,
Elizabeth Kitchen, Incoming Principal
Covington Elementary
